Seismic evidence of a linking between the timing of the 28 known shallow moonquakes and with the timing of the largest 26 earthquakes occurring in the period 1971-1976. Distributions of the geocentric ecliptic longitude of the moon (lambda m) for the time of occurrence of the lunar and terrestrial seismic events were analyzed separately and in combination for the entire 6 year period. Seismic data for individual years were also analyzed and the results are discussed in detail. It is found that: (1) clustering of events was present in the entire 6 year period as well as for 2 and 6 years of the 6 individual years; (2) the phases of the separate lunar and terrestrial event distributions differ by less than 7 degrees over the geocentric ecliptic longitude; and (3) the annual levels of shallow-focus seismic activity on the earth and the moon varied together in the period 1971-1976. The role of gravitational stresses in the triggering of large seismic events in the earth and the moon is briefly considered.
