The classification and the splitting of the oscillations of cylindrical
and ring-shaped cosmical masses are discussed from the standpoint of
group-theory, for purely self-gravitating configurations, in the
presence of rotation, of magnetic fields, and of tidal forces. A
comparison is made with the corresponding results in oscillating stars.
