Attention is given to the most significant observational results that must be considered in interpreting rapid coherent and quasi-periodic oscillations in the optical and X-ray fluxes of cataclysmic variables (CVs). The existing data base on these phenomena is noted, together with current understanding and outstanding problems in their temporal behavior, periods, and proposed models. It is noted that there is not as yet any detailed study of correlations between the periods of the coherent and the quasi-periodic oscillations as they vary during a dwarf nova outburst.
