New 2.2 μm polarization maps of the Cepheus A and S140 molecular clouds show significant levels of polarization, reaching maximum values of 78% in Cepheus A and 43% in S140. The centrosymmetric pattern of the polarization vectors in each region is characteristic of reflection nebulae illuminated by a central source. The center of the polarization pattern in Cepheus A lies within a few arcseconds of the ultracompact H II regions and molecular masers believed to be the source of the bipolar outflow observed in CO and H2. The linear arrangement of the H II regions suggests that they are shock-heated jets that have been ejected from a young star located at the position of the polarization centroid, deeply embedded in the molecular cloud. In S140 the polarization is axisymmetric about the position of IRS 1 and reaches a maximum value at the position of IRS 2. This symmetry suggests that the outflow of high-velocity gas in S140 may be viewed nearly pole-on.
