Collapsing Clouds: Star-Forming Regions, Collapsing Clouds: Fragmentation
Scientific paper
The investigation of the thermal instability in collapsing clouds with initial masses M ≡ 108 - 109Msun and initial temperature T ≍ 104K is carried out. The thermal instability is shown to arise at T ≤ 4000K, when the cooling rate on heavy elements becomes comparable to the cooling rate of the main source, i.e. molecular hydrogen. The star forming region properties for different types of galaxies are discussed.
