Solar Wind: Structure, Solar Wind: Interplanetary Plasma

Scientific paper

The dependence of the scattering angle of radio waves in the near-solar plasma on the radial distance R is investigated. A comparatively narrow region in which the scattering is sharply reduced precedes the extended transition region of enhanced scattering discovered earlier. This finding indicates a local reduction of the level of spatial fluctuations of the electron concentration. A similar structural peculiarity has also been discovered in the results of measurements of the average electron concentration Ne. The region of reduced scattering coincides with the zone of largest positive gradients of the solar-wind velocity and with the region in which the main acceleration of the near-solar plasma occurs.
