Ionospheric sounding and optical observations at a polar station were used to investigate the relationship between ionospheric parameters and daytime aurora characteristics. It is shown that the character of ionospheric reflections is closely connected with morphological and spectral features of auroras. The maximum of the electron density and the effective height of the E and F2 layers are well correlated with auroral intensity in the 557.7 and 630.0 nm lines.
