Jupiter: Observations
Scientific paper
The planet was observed from 2001 July 21 through 2002 May 16, visually and by CCD devices. Statistics of belt aspects and of the activity of the atmospheric currents were elaborated. White spots on SSTB were tracked, while the long lived oval BA on the South edge of the STB underwent a conjunction with the Great Red Spot. The GRS seemed uneven in intensity and was followed by the usual white spots in the middle of the SEB. The North Equatorial Current was not very active. The NEB resulted still expanded to the North as in 2000-01, had substantial rifts in the middle and showed spectacular dark "barges" and bright "portholes" near its Northern edge.
