Observations of galactic Ca II, and in some cases Na I, interstellar absorption with resolutions as fine as 17km s-1 FWHM are reported for the sources Fairall 9, Akn 120, NGC4593, IC4329A, 2155-304, 2251-178, 2302-089, the 1981 supernovae in NGC 1316 and 4536 and the star K996 in the globular cluster NGC 7078. The analysis has been augmented with five sources from Blades & Morton (Paper I) and 10 published elsewhere. All objects have a Ca II K line with ∣ >VLSR ∣ <17km s-1 and an equivalent width in the range 80-400 mÅ, which may be attributed to local disc gas. In addition six objects have K components at intermediate velocities 20< ∣ VLSR <90 km s-1, which are thought to originate at greater distances, though three of the lines are incompatible with halo gas corotating with the disc, implying large peculiar motions. Eight objects with resolution < 25 km s-1 FWHM have no components in this intermediate velocity range to a limiting column density of about logN < 12.0 cm-2. Comparison of the sight lines to the extragalactic objects with stars at various distances and galactic latitudes shows that the Ca II is concentrated in a thick disc with a scale height of about 1(+1, -0.5) kpc.
