The orbital stability of the satellites of the outer planets is discussed; special mechanisms such as critical arguments by which certain pairs of satellites achieve stability are reviewed. For other satellites the part played by the frequent occurrence of mirror configurations among pairs of satellites is examined and it is shown that optimum conditions for such occurrences reside in almost circular, almost coplanar orbits.
