We report ROSAT PSPC observations of five powerful radio galaxies from the 3CR catalogue (3C 227, 277.2, 287.1, 332 and 368). All of the objects are detected. Three are low-redshift, broad-line radio galaxies for which we find power-law spectra; in one of these there is also a possible extended thermal component, and in another there is absorption, possibly with a warm absorber. The remaining two are distant radio galaxies where we suggest that the emission is thermal diffuse cluster emission.
