The radial-velocity curve of the dwarf nova SS Cygni has been measured five times since 1970, and the measurements do not agree at all well. The published K velocities of the K5 V star in the system fall into two groups, one near 120 km/s and one near 155 km/s. The measurement published by Walker (1981) falls in the group near 120 km/s. Using a more appropriate set of spectral lines, the original electrographs from which Walker obtained his radial velocities are remeasured, giving K = 146 + or - 7 km/s. These new measurements bring Walker's results into agreement with the results published by Kiplinger (1979), Stover et al. (1980), and Hessman et al. (1984). The only other modern measurement of the K velocity that gave a value near 120 km/s was published by Cowley et al. (1980). Using a light-curve-synthesis program, it is shown that heating of the K5 V star by the white dwarf and accretion disk in SS Cyg caused the low velocity they found. The results remove the discrepancies among the published K velocities of the K5 V star. After a small correction is made for the effects of residual heating and geometric distortions, the K velocity of the center of mass of the K5 V star is found to be 158 + or - 3 km/s.
