Some of the atomic data relevant to the ionization balance of atoms in H I regions are considered. Photoionization rates are given for several interstellar radiation fields. An updated table of radiative recombination coefficients is given for a number of atoms in the temperature range 10 - 1000K. Attention is drawn to the probable importance of charge exchange reactions and a tentative table of rate coefficients is proposed. These data are used to comment briefly on some observations.
