X-Ray Pulsars: Stellar Winds, X-Ray Pulsars: Accretion Disks

Scientific paper

Recent numerical simulations of accretion flows support the existence of an accretion disk in the wind-fed case. Based on this suggestion the authors discuss the interaction of the disk and spherical accretion streams for X-ray pulsars with early-type companions. They find that relative fluctuations of the disk-accretion rate and spherical-accretion rate may lead to disk variations and accretion torque which accounts for the complicated pulse period changes. Two typical sources, Vela X-1 and A0535+26, are discussed.
