McCall et al.'s (1985) analysis of observations of 99 H II regions in galaxies of various metallicities has revealed that G and SG H II regions form a two-parameter family encompassing the metallicity and the age. CCD images of NGC 2442 indicate that the effect of evolution is present when a large number of H II regions is analyzed. For that galaxy, a gradient of -0.05 dex/kpc is obtained; this corresponds to an intercept of forbidden O III/H-beta of -0.15. A comparison of these data with those for NGC 2992 shows that CCD, narrowband filters, and comparatively small telescopes are suitable for this type of work.
