The activity in the 'normal' spiral galaxies in the local region of the Universe is discussed. It is believed that these galaxies will be instrumental in the study of the complex physics of the activity in galactic nuclei. The types of activity characteristic of normal galaxies are discussed with attention given to Seyfert galaxies, low excitation nuclear emission line regions, and starbursts. The activity in Sbc galaxies is examined. It is concluded that even the most normal of spiral galaxies has an active nucleus, including the Galaxy.
