Following the theory of and (1985a,b, 1987) a method is proposed, which allows an easy and direct determination of carbonate dissolution kinetics by measuring the saturation length in sandy aquifer material. The results are in good agreement with the measurements of other authors, who used laboratory techniques which are very difficult to apply to natural aquifer situations. Using the saturation-length-method, the dissolution kinetics of calcite, dolomite and siderite were compared. The influence of some dissolution inhibitors was quantified.
