Impulsive and adiabatic approximations for the merger times of a satellite galaxy moving on the periphery of the primary galaxy are considered. The form of Alladin and Parathasarathy (1978) is employed for the merger time under the impulsive approximation. If the satellite galaxy is modeled as a point souce, it is demonstrated that these merger times reduce to the decay time predicted by Chandrasekhar's (1943) formula for dynamical friction.
