The authors have observed the neutral hydrogen (at λ = 21 cm) and the carbon monoxide (at λ = 2.6 mm) emission lines towards the supernova remnant Puppis A. Optical, X-ray and radio-continuum observations suggest that the remnant is expanding asymmetrically with the northern and eastern parts of the SNR shell moving into regions of substantially higher density. The authors' observations have disclosed the presence of such clouds along the north-eastern boundary of Puppis A. Four clouds, at +3, +10, +16 and +22 km s-1 respectively, were detected in emission in the H I 21-cm line. All of them, but the last one, have a CO counterpart. The SNR is found to be in contact with the H I and CO cloud observed at +16 km s-1, and it is clear that this cloud is responsible for the existence of the X-ray eastern bright knot. Interaction between the SNR blast wave and the H I and CO clouds observed at +3 and +10 km s-1, is also suggested.
