The European Moon program, which includes a manned lunar base, the cultivation of the Moon's natural resources, and the exploration of the Moon's unknown resources is discussed. Two projects are currently being considered by ESA (European Space Agency): MORO (Moon Orbiting Observatory); and LEDA (Lunar European Demonstration Approach). MORO is a mission where a lunar orbiter studies all the different aspects of the Moon's surface and investigates its interior. LEDA entails a soft-land on the Moon's surface, with a possible payload of a lunar rover, a soil-processing facility, and a robotic arm. It is hoped that LEDA will provide the information necessary regarding the feasibility of the establishment of a manned lunar base.
