A method is presented for the classification of two categories of objects, namely, stars and star clusters, by means of objective criteria. The method is derived from the gray-tone spatial-dependence approach, modified to fit astronomical requirements. Some preliminary results for the identification of globular clusters in Andromeda are presented.
