The true brightness distribution of a source observed by means of aperture synthesis techniques is commonly reconstructed either by Hogbom's (1974) clean and restore method or a least square fitting procedure. The latter method yields the physical parameters of the sources in the synthesized map, whereas the first method is well suited for subtracting side- and grating-lobes due to narrow sources from the synthesized map. In the present paper, it is shown how accurate source parameters and a high-quality image can be obtained by combining these two methods, regardless of the source dimensions. Results obtained for a solar burst observed with the Westerbork synthesis radio telescope are presented and discussed.
