The objectives of the MKh6411 mass spectrometer, used during the descent
of Venera 11 and 12 descent craft in the Venusian atmosphere, were to:
(1) study lower-atmosphere composition, and (2) measure trace elements
and isotopes. A block diagram of the spectrometer is presented and the
basic design and operational characteristics are discussed.
