A quadratic magnetic field of 3.6 kG has been discovered in the primary component of 74 Aqr, and a longitudinal magnetic field of -274G has been measured in the secondary of χ Lup. These two stars are SB2's with a HgMn primary. It is the first time that magnetic fields are definitely detected in such objects. This has potentially important implications for the understanding of the physical processes occurring in main-sequence A and B stars.
