The lunar samples provided some material from the early period of the solar system. These samples could have preserved in them some of the stages in the evolution of carbon compounds. The analysis, so far, has not revealed with certainty a single organic compound of biological significance. However, the finding of methane, carbon monoxide, carbides, etc. could be considered in the context of cosmic evolution.
