Spectrophotometry of about 2000 objective-prism spectra has allowed determination of the Hγ-line equivalent width of 103 OB and supergiant O7-F2 galactic standard stars, and 195 O9-F8 bright Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) star members. From selected galactic stars, calibrations between the mean Hγ-line equivalent width and MK spectral types have been deduced. Using these calibrations, the luminosity classes or subclasses have been obtained for 172 blue SMC members, mainly supergiants of previously known spectral type (Azzopardi and Vigneau, 1982). The validity of the data and of the method we have used is discussed.
