The role of the diffusive particle acceleration in both non-relativistic and relativistic astrophysical shocks is reviewed and evaluated. We discuss the properties of these shocks and we further present Monte Carlo simulations especially studying the relativistic shocks efficiency in accelerating particles (i.e. protons or electrons) in astrophysical regions such as Super Novae, Active Galactic Nuclei hot spots and Gamma Ray Bursts.
