Compact elliptical (cE) galaxies are extremely rare. Only five objects of this type have been identified so far: M32, NGC4486B, NGC5846A, two cEs in Abell 1689, and one in Abell 496. We have conducted an automatic search for cE galaxy candidates in the nearby clusters using the resources of the VO. Our algorithm has automatically analyzed HST WFPC2 images of nearby Abell clusters with the redshifts z<0.05 and obtained automatically the light profiles for all extended objects (i.e. galaxies) in the fields. The light profiles of the candidate objects have been analyzed using GALFIT resulting in a final sample of 12 cE galaxies in 8 clusters. Nearly all compact objects are located in the vicinities of central cluster cD galaxies. We consider the scenario of tidal stripping of intermediate luminosity S0 galaxies by the cD potential as a way to create cEs. Further observations are required to give a decisive answer to this question.
