The requirements for Galactic X ray astronomy are considered in the context of the technology that is likely to be available for a mission that could be flown within ten to fifteen years. I conclude that there is sufficient overlap of requirements between the various subject areas to make the concept of a large general purpose X ray facility a very attractive proposition.
