The consequences of charge transfer reactions of hydrogen atoms with plasma in the layer of increased density separating the interstellar medium from the heliosphere are considered. It is shown that both atoms produced in the charge transfer and atoms penetrating directly from the interstellar space are present in the solar system. Estimates show that the hydrogen atoms escaping from the layer through its outer boundary may have appreciable effect on the oncoming interstellar gas.
