This report is based on a talk given at a Meeting of the Association on 1983 April 27. It outlines the areas of work undertaken by the Section and links with other groups. The International Halley Watch programmes are described. It will be important that certain procedures are followed and that observers have recent practice of comet observation if the Association's contribution to the P/Halley apparition in 1985-86 is to be of maximum value. The Section's detailed programme will be published nearer the time but those who are planning specialist programmes of work are asked to contact the Director as early as possible.
