Supernova 1987A In Lmc, Supernovae: Explosions
Scientific paper
SN 1987A, in the Large Magellanic Cloud, was the closest supernova since the 1604 event observed by Kepler. It provided a unique opportunity to verify theories in quite a variety of domains: astrophysics, nuclear physics, particle physics. All the observations strongly confirm the previous ideas on the physical conditions prevailing during the supernova explosions, although the SN 1987A event was not exempt of surprises.
