Evolutionary population synthesis is used to calculate the energy distribution in the integral spectrum and the colours of elliptical galaxies for two metallicities Z = 0.01 and Z = 0.04. The comparison of calculated spectra and UBV colours with the observed ones has shown that even high-luminosity E-galaxies have Z ⪉ 0.01. Slopes of colour dependences on metallicity and age are roughly evaluated. Colour dependence on absolute magnitude for elliptical galaxies established by observations has led to the relation Δlg Z = 0.17 ΔMV.
