The expanding features observed close to the galactic center can be explained either as being produced by a genuine large scale expansion, or by gas moving in suitably oriented closed streamlines of approximately elliptical shape. Here the overall parameters of such streamlines: the position angle of the major axis and the axial ratio are determined for the center region features described by Rohlfs and Braunsfurth (1982). The mean position angle of θ0 = -34° and the mean axis ratio q = 1.5 are well within the range obtained for hydrodynamical model computations. In addition, the results show that the 3 kpc arm and the feature II are related.
