It is shown that Raman scattering deserves to be included in the
diagnostic tools of the spectroscopy of gaseous nebulae and emission
regions of galactic nuclei. It is pointed out that Raman scattering may
be the source of some up to now unidentified emission lines. It is shown
that Raman scattering may act as a line-broadening mechanism.
