High resolution observations of Beta Cephei stars were made throughout the stars' pulsation cycles. Evidence for two shock waves are found in the spectral sequences of BW Vulpeculae. Because shock waves are absent in the H-alpha profiles of Nu Eridani and Gamma Pegasi, it is suggested that the shock wave interpretation for classical Beta Cephei stars is inaccurate. A transition between Beta Cephei stars with small velocity amplitude and those with large velocity amplitude is proposed. Stars with large velocity amplitude, such as BW Vulpeculae, 12 Lacertae, and Delta Scorpii, display two shocks per period and a velocity stillstand, while classical Beta Cephei stars have only one shock wave per period.
