The dependence of small aperture magnitudes on spiral galaxies' total luminosities and surface brightnesses is analyzed. These results, and simple dimensional arguments, are used to interpret Giraud's discovery of a tight Tully-Fisher type relation between B(-0.5) and rotation velocity in terms of a 'two-parameter family' description of spiral galaxies.
