We propose GMOS+B600 spectroscopy, with supporting imaging, of a newly discovered multiply imaged source in the spectacular strong lensing cluster RCS2-2327-0204. The three apparent images of this source have peculiar colours, and in HST+ACS images the source appears to be two (very-close-to) point sources, separated in the image plane by a few tenths of an arcsecond. The best interpretation of the available data is that we have discovered a highly magnified binary AGN at z~2-2.5, likely caught in the act of a merger, with separations of the components of only about 100 parsecs. Our proposed spectroscopy aims to confirm the nature of the object, search for velocity separation between the two components, and check for variability of the source. Only two wide separation lensed AGN are currently known (with Einstein radii of 14".6 and 22".5). If confirmed, this source will be the widest separation lensed AGN known to date, with an Einstein radius of 35".
