Results are discussed for an experimental study of inelastic scattering of cosmic-ray muons by NaCl nuclei with associated muon energy losses ranging from 100 to about 1000 GeV. This study was conducted using a liquid scintillation device installed in a salt mine at a depth of 316 m water equivalent; the muon interaction took place at the top of a drift. Observed showers are delineated into those which developed after inelastic muon scattering (nuclear showers) and those which developed after electromagnetic processes (electromagnetic showers). Relative nuclear losses are computed for muons with energies of 1 and 10 TeV.
