A systems analysis of Spacelab borne lidar for atmospheric research is presented. Analysis of four configuration options led to the recommendation that the whole lidar should be placed on the pallet. System study topics include constitutive elements of a lidar system, parametric study, optical system study, laser subsystem specifications, calibration, synchronization, lasers and detectors package, scientific results achievement study, and facility concept.
