Ordinary chondrites are divided into three different groups based on their free and oxidized metal contents: H, L, and LL [e.g., 1]. H chondrites contain the highest abundance of free metal as FeNi phases, whereas L and LL chondrites containing less free metal. L chondrites, however, contain a higher abundance of troilite (FeS) than H chondrites [e.g., 1]. As a consequence, the composition and mineralogy of impact products in the different ordinary chondrite groups might be expected to show systematic differences. To investigate this possibility, we performed high strain-rate deformation experiments on both H and L chondrites [2].
