In Indonesia, the 50th anniversary for the astronomical education was held in the form of two seminars on 18 and 19 October, 2001. The author has attended this anniversary and reported on the astronomical cooperation between Indonesia and Japan in 1978 - 1992. Programs of intensive exchange of persons and technical cooperation were carried out in this period. Astronomy in the past and present in Indonesia was reviewed in these seminars and it was desired to promote the further cooperation between both countries.
