It is shown, that for the Coma cluster ellipticals of normal surface brightness, there exists a significant correlation between the residual from the D(n)-sigma relation and effective surface brightness. This comes about because D(n) does not correspond to a perfect edge-on view of the basic plane of the Coma ellipticals. Some evidence suggests that the elliptical galaxies in the Coma and Virgo clusters lie on intrinsically different fundamental planes. Also, the scatter of the Virgo galaxies about their mean relation includes a significant intrinsic component that is not present in the Coma sample.
