Optical and infrared images of the radio galaxy NGC 1275 show a point-like object 7 arcsec north-east of the Seyfert nucleus. This object is still found in the literature described as intrinsic to NGC 1275 and hence extragalactic in origin. An intermediate-dispersion optical spectrum between 3500-4600 A of the 'hotspot' was taken to complement an optical and infrared imaging study of the underlying galaxy in NGC 1275. This object, 7 arcsec north-east of the nucleus, is clearly a foreground star of spectral type F4-F6.
