The general design and operation of a prototype of the ShAL-1000, a system of detectors for the study of extensive air showers of very high energies, are briefly reviewed. The system consists of sixteen detectors located at the nodes of an orthogonal network at a distance of 500 m away from each other. A schematic diagram of the electron equipment of a detector station is presented.
