Scientific paper

This paper describes single pixel microcalorimeters with a superconductor-to-normal phase transition thermometer, as developed for high resolution X-ray spectroscopy, and discusses the discrepancies between their theoretical and experimental performance. Moreover, the status and development of large arrays for imaging X-ray spectroscopy, intended for NASA's Constellation-X and ESA's X-ray Early Universe Spectroscopy satellites, is discussed. .
