The reasons for the absence of an ordinary planet in the asteroid zone (AZ) are discussed. Three possible mechanisms of the increase of asteroid velocities and of removal of bodies from the zone are examined: The resonance asteroids increased the eccentricities of their orbits due to gravitational perturbations by Jupiter so that their escape from AZ became possible. The Jupiter zone bodies with more eccentric orbits penetrated the AZ and, being more massive than asteroids, swept them out during collisions. Particles and small bodies effectively interacted with the gas. Larger particles and bodies spiraled in the direction of gas pressure growth.
