Recent optical observations of several nearby radio sources are discussed. At present, optical evidence for collimated outflow is mostly indirect, involving the results of interactions of radio emitting plasma with interstellar material. Spectra from M87 indicate a filament nearly at rest and hence a condensation rather than material being ejected from the nucleus. The optical condensations along the radio axis of Cen A may be another example. One case of simultaneous ejection of thermal and relativistic plasmas has apparently been found, 3C 305. Optical and radio maps are similar and polarization data indicates that where the two maps overlap the 5 GHz polarization is 1%; where the radio emission extends beyond the optical, values as high as 30% are reached.
