New spectroscopic results establish the absence of a broad component to H alpha in the remnant on SN 1006. This result implies a collisionless shock faster than 2700 km/sec in the theory of Chevalier and Raymond (1978). A consistent interpretation of Tycho's remnant and SNR 1006, based upon the collisionless shock theory and density fluctuations in the interstellar medium, is offered.
