A discharge model of the grid-collector region of a planar Cs-Ba tacitron using a thick, low transparency grid was developed. Preliminary estimates of the electron temperature and plasma density in the GC discharge during ``slow quenching'' show that they increased from ~12,000 K and ~3×1013 cm-3 to >30,000 K and ~2×1014 cm-3 at the time extinguishing occurred, respectively, showing a qualitatively agreement with experimental results. Future results from the model will be used to obtain a quantitative understanding of the extinguishing processes during ``slow quenching'' of the GC discharge.
